The Miller Beach Arts and Creative District will hold a showing of the movie “Elf” at 7 p.m. Thursday at Marshall J. Gardner Center For The Arts, located at 540 S. Lake Street in Gary. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., tickets are $10 at the door — the price includes popcorn and soft drinks — and there is a cash bar. Proceeds benefit the the Miller Beach Arts and Creative District.

The Indiana Welcome Center will host multiple showings of “A Christmas Story” with visitors encouraged to wear their favorite pajamas on Thursday and Friday. The movie showings, which are free, will be at 1 p.m., 3 p.m., 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. on both days at 7770 Corinne Drive in Hammond. Refreshments will be available for purchase.

Animated displays depicting scenes from the holiday classic “A Christmas Story” will light up at The Indiana Welcome Center through Dec. 31 as part of the “A Christmas Story” Comes Home exhibit. The display is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily at 7770 Corinne Drive in Hammond. The displays were first showcased in 2003 at Macy’s in New York City. The scenes include Higbee’s Department Store, A Hero’s Dream, Flick’s Tongue & the Triple Dog Dare, It’s a Major Award, Santa’s Mountain at Higbee’s, The Bumpus Hounds, and The Parker Living Room.

The Marshall J. Gardner Center for the Arts is hosting the “Random Acts of Creativity” art show — featuring paintings, sculptures, installations, videos, sound and furniture — through Jan. 14. Works by Daneiya Bonner, Catisha Toney, James Ford, Ed Abromaitis, Lillian Martinez, Jennifer No, Greg O’Drobinak, Deb Weiss, Jamika Smith, Mariah Smith, and Rodney Brown will be on display at 540 S. Lake Street in Gary

There will be a reception and Live Music Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. on Jan. 6, featuring live music by D.C.M.T. (Digitally Correct Meta-Troubadours) with improvisational Music featuring bells, drums, flutes, didgeridoo, and other exotic instruments blended with innovative digital sound processing.
